Scholarship Background

Elise Gene Clarke Scholarship

Elise Gene Clarke ScholarshipThe Elise Gene Clarke Scholarship is offered to Ifetayo students through the support of Mama Elinor Bowles, the sister of Elise Gene Clarke.

Elise Gene Clarke was the firstborn daughter of Abbie and Eugene Bowles of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Eight years later her parents gave birth to their second child, Elinor Grace Bowles. Elise was born on January 7, 1923. She passed suddenly and quietly on January 23, 2006. She is deeply missed by her relatives and friends, and particularly her little sister, Elinor.

Mama Elinor Bowles is a member of Ifetayo's Council of Elders and a retired writer, researcher, and activist.

Ifetayo sincerely thanks Mama Elinor for her kindness, generosity and continued support of our youth.

Ifetayo is honored that additional funders have identified Ifetayo as an organization through which to support the educational, personal and professional development and achievement of children and youth. We sincerely thank them for their support.
