Over the past 22 years Ifetayo has served over 15,000 students and provided programs in performing and visual arts, academic assistance, cultural heritage, health and wellness, and college readiness. As our student population increases we seek to acquire a 5,000 square foot property in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
Having our own space will:
Increase our capacity by 90% and help broaden and deepen our programming;
Permit our faculty the necessary time and space required to provide increased
individualized support;
Give us the freedom to be open six days a week without landlord-imposed
restrictions while granting the community flexible time for meetings and activities.
The building will have:
- Two dance studios: One of our studios will be a fully equipped state of the art studio. We are particularly excited to to extend this professional studio to the students that we serve in public schools!
- A Community Space: This space will be dedicated to
hosting events such as educational conferences, entrepreneurial development
workshops,
networking events and will serve as a research hub for student enrolled
in programs with a research project component (Rites of Passage, Ifetayo
Youth Ensemble, and Sankofa International Exchange Program).
- A small black box theater: The theater will give our professional
preparation award-winning Ifetayo Youth Ensemble a home-base where they
can rehearse, refine their techniques in various disciplines, and expand
and attract a consistent audience base.
The total budget is estimated at $2 million and we’ve raised just
under
half of the total cost. Please help us fill in the remaining gap!
